The coronavirus outbreak is first and foremost a human tragedy, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. It is also having a growing impact on the global economy. Cities in lockdown, travel restrictions in place, plant closures mounting, global trade, commerce, tourism, investment, and supply chains in disarray. Even in these tough times, there is good news for a business that operates digitally, that the spread of coronavirus is likely to boost digital media consumption across the board as people spend more time at home and communicate in person less. If ever there was a time for digital marketing to come to the fore, it is now. Billboards that would usually have been seen by thousands now stand beside empty streets, fewer people are venturing out to get newspapers and nobody is holding events. In the meantime, with so many more people are online and for longer, the chances of seeing ads on social media or interacting with content marketing blogs are greater.
